The main US indexes rose in early trading Tuesday, heading for a second straight day of gains with the blue-chip Dow Jones Industrial Average making another run at the key 20,000 level as more than two-thirds of the components improved.
The Dow and the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite touched intraday record highs, while telecommunication services rose about 1% in the best gain among the sectors on the Standard & Poor’s 500.
After chipping into Monday’s gains, investors seemed more willing to shrug off geopolitical tensions after an attack in Turkey on Russia’s ambassador and an assault on a market in Berlin, Germany.
Gains on the Dow were led by Caterpillar (CAT), which rose 2.1%, and Nike (NKE), which gained 1.6%. Kandi Technologies (KNDI) surged 14% after the company released the results of a Chinese government review of subsidies on electric vehicles made by its joint venture company, helping to remove uncertainty in the market.
